Butter Bear will help you bring your favorite snack to the next level. Jonathan Vella’s mission was to make the tastiest and most nutritious almond butter power balls possible. Unfortunately, the recipe he came up with wouldn’t hold its shape and would break. Not one to give up, Jonathan tweaked it and discovered a new concept – trail mix in a jar! He started giving out samples, and Butter Bear quickly became a success. It’s now being sold online and in-person throughout the Berkshires, including at Jonathan’s juice bar, the Spot, which he opened in Pittsfield in 2018.
Butter Bear fortified almond butter is low sugar, high protein, and packed with superfoods like vegan vanilla protein, cacao nibs, goji berries, hemp seeds, flax seeds, and coconut flakes. It offers 8 grams of protein, 1.5 grams of sugar, and 3 grams net carbs per serving. It is vegan and gluten-free and made in small batches here in Pittsfield. The recently introduced Foraged Mushroom flavor is made with a smooth blend of reishi, cordyceps, chaga, shiitake, maitake, oyster, turkey tail, and lion’s mane, along with almonds and vegan vanilla protein.

The Bear Butter sounded interesting but I wasn’t sure I would like it so they offered me a sample. I was hooked from the first taste. It is so good it’s hard to describe. We buy enough each time we are home to get us to the next visit. This last time we ordered online and had it shipped as my daughter mentioned we were getting close to a Bear Butter Emergency. Lol!
