“I love to see my pottery functioning in the world! It is meant to be used, and loved, as I have loved making it.”
– Maxine Oland, owner
Centered Vessel Pottery features functional artisan pottery made with love in Amherst by Maxine Oland. Pottery, archaeology, gardening, and yoga are the passions that keep Maxine grounded to the earth, centered within herself, and connected to a deep human history of craft production. When she is centered and grounded, she is at her best in this world, as a partner, a mother, and a teacher. Pottery is a labor of love that benefits Maxine throughout all aspects of her life.
Maxine works in stoneware, which is solid and strong. She throws white clay, fired to more than 2000°F in her home studio here in western Massachusetts. She uses a variety of glazes to accentuate form. All the glazes she uses are food-safe, lead-free, and can be put in the microwave and dishwasher, unless otherwise indicated. Her beautiful, artisanal pieces are fully-functional and meant to be used and loved.
“I absolutely love the beautiful cups I just received!!! They are not only wonderfully crafted but the perfect size for my cup of tea (and fit well in my hand!!) The handwritten note and little extra “goodie” were a wonderful surprise!!!”
